MY FITNESS CLASS: PART 1: NUTRITION!! – Fitness – Video of the Week

make sure to check out PART 2 and PART 3 too!!
I had such a great time at Pinners Conference.
It was inspiring to be in the same room with so many amazing people.
I felt so honored to be asked to speak about something that I have so much passion for!
Many of you have sent me emails and messages about my little tips and tricks on fitness and nutrition…and I’ve been holding back the posts because of my class.
BUT, now that that’s over and done with…I am THRILLED to share with you all my secrets to a healthy lifestyle!
I started out the class telling everyone a little bit about me…but since you can hit that little tab at the top to read all that, let’s just skip to the good stuff!
I already shared this video in a previous post, but I thought I’d throw it on this post as well.
In this video, I talk about how difficult it was for me to lose my baby weight.
I was 200 pounds after having my little boy and I was busier at that point in my life then any other!
Nurse, wife, mother, Primary President, blogger and superhero by night…
I didn’t have the time but I also was out of excuses!
no matter what excuses we make.
But, I am here to help you figure out where to start!
What’s more important?
Jeff and I have based our healthy living off of the Crossfit manual and have read it many times.
With that being said…we’ve learned and can testify from experience that the FOUNDATION for a fit lifestyle is NUTRITION!!
NUTRITION IS FUEL and if you’re not fueling your body with the proper nutrition, you will not be able to get the most out of your workouts!

Does it mean changing your ENTIRE LIFESTYLE?
*No eating out
*No sweets
*No carbs
OR…ending life as you know it with some DIET!?!
*Which diet?
*Paleo (caveman diet)
*South beach
*Gluten free, vegetarian

IF you answered YES to any of those questions you have failed the rhetorical questions test!

If you want to live a healthy lifestyle then there are NO DIETS ALLOWED!!!!
*Don’t trick your body into losing weight with some fad diet
*Lifestyle CHANGE?…more like a lifestyle ADJUSTMENT
*Think with the pyramid in mind
 *Keep it clean and simple
*Take all that PROCESSED FOOD out of it!!!
*Eat small meals throughout the day…keep your metabolism up!
 This is HUGE for me!
I LOVE me some sugar and it doesn’t work for me to cut it out completely for a week and then splurge for a full 12 hours!!
I stay on track with little rewards throughout the week!
I will give myself a little treat usually every day.

*Small meals: if you eat small meals throughout the day your less likely to crash while your running errands!
Have your purse packed and your water bottle ready: fill your water bottle and your kids sippy cups up at night and place it in the fridge for the next day!
It literally takes me 2 SECONDS to grab a couple sandwich bags and throw in some…
Sliced apples
Veggies straws
Homemade trial mix (made from the bulk section in Winco and divided into individual bags)

*At first it sounds like a stupid question but do you know how to shop for healthy food??
*Shop “AROUND” the store not “IN” the store: try to shop the perimeter of the store! The more you shop the isles the more processed food you will get
*Think fresh and decomposing: will this item go bad in a few weeks?…that’s a good sign!!
*Buy produce in small quantities: that way you don’t waste any! It’s amazing how quickly things can go bad.
*WHOLE GRAINS vs. WHOLE WHEAT: make sure you know what ‘kind’ of healthy food to buy: sometimes food will claim to be healthy when it isn’t as all!!
*Buy rewards in small quantities: Don’t buy a package of twinkies…because the kids will go to bed and you will eat them…ALL OF THEM!
*Instead buy a package of chocolate chips and grab a handful for your little reward for the day.
*BUY IN BULK: WINCO has great dried fruit and nuts in bulk
*Shop seasonal produce it’s the cheapest!
*Cash budget (find the best store around with cheap fruit)
*Shop the most money saving stores! Stop being dramatic and shop at those stores! We can all go to the grocery stores and pick through the produce! It’s a sacrifice you have to be willing to take if you want to eat clean on a budget!
*I have listed some of the produce that we ALWAYS have on hand!
*It’s rare that I buy other produce, unless using it for a recipe!
*Fruit: apples, bananas, strawberries
*Veggies: spinach, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, avocados
*Bountiful Basket: go online, order a basket for $25, pick up a laundry basket full of produce!
(search online to see if they do this where you live)

I love this post! Will devour it more later!!! I did do a quick weight loss almost 2 years ago, and during/after it, my lifestyle did change. I work out 6 days a week, and eat smaller meals/healthy snacks, and i’ve maintained the number, now I’m wanted to tone more. It is tough to change the lifestyle, but I wanted it bad enough. Do tell me about the gray workout clothes–love ’em! Jealous of your buns, girl (is that awkward to say?? Yes!) It’s my goal to tone up!

    • Sadie Jane Sabin

Kristen, this comment made my whole week!! Thank you so much!!! If you put your mind to it…it really can be a huge lifestyle change for the better!! The workout clothes are from Albion Fit!!! I am posting an Albion Fit giveaway TOMORROW!! That is where I got them from!! You are a doll and you have some serious drive!! You got this girl!

I needed some more healthy meal suggestions, thank you! About 40 days ago I made a deal with myself to start eating better again and working out more. It has been a bit slow going but I have lost 11 pounds so far but I am toning up and starting to see definition in some areas again. My goal is to lose another 15 pounds by January. I am glad I am doing it at a slow and steady pace because I want to keep it off.

  • Kevin and Kelly

I have been struggling for the past 2 weeks with changing my eating habits. I felt overwhelmed with what to eat and where to start until I read this post! I have been guilty of depriving myself of sweets and my love of bread until I cave on the weekends and go a little over board. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of grabbing a small handful of chocolate chips as a treat during the week 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing!!

    • Sadie Jane Sabin

Absolutely!! I am so glad you liked it!!! Grabbing something sweet, yet small, gets me through the day and week!!! You got this!! XOXO

  • Bunch of Something

Sadie! I do online health and fitness coaching and teach clean eating to my challengers. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS post and will be sharing with them! When did you switch from Paleo to Clean eating lifestyle? I thought of doing a 30 day Paleo challenge from What do you think?

    • Sadie Jane Sabin

Thank you for your compliments!! I switched from Paleo pretty much after I lost most of my baby weight!!! It was a great way to lose that weight I needed in a healthy but quick way…but I wanted to eat more of a clean diet because I really believe my kids need the balance!! DO the challenge girl!! Ive done a couple and Ive loved it!! Thanks for reading! XOXO

  • STAYC @ Lacy and Crew

Thank you so much for sharing this! My weight always seems to be a roller coaster and a few years ago I lost 80 lbs from strictly eating clean and regular exercise. Now that I’ve had my first baby (and put on a TON of weight) I’m struggling to lose it still a year later… even though I go to the gym EVERY day. I’m going to refer to your eating ideas, because I think it must be my foods that need changing too (I agree on the nutrition foundation!)
    Thanks so much!

Fitness class offers a variety of training techniques, environments, and challenging workouts. You don’t have to be a professional dancer or a kick boxing expert; it’s all about getting your heart rate up and having a good time. Thanks!

  • Hayley Stone

You are my hero! I’m so glad I found this when I did, just the motivation I need.

5 weeks post baby #2, exactly your situation. Thank you!

  • agnes

What about shakeology? Are you for it

  • Danielle

Are you tracking what you eat? Do you count calories? I’m just trying to figure out how much to eat.
    Thanks for all the inspiration!

  • Jesse Hermiller

Thanks so much for this! it is wonderful I will definitely be following. Do you have any suggestions for those of us who are vegan for protein source? Such as how much? its so hard sometimes because a lot of vegan protein sources are processed or high carb. Any suggestions would be great! thanks so much!

  • Jenna

This is absolutely fantastic! I have been wanting to get into Crossfit for quite awhile and you have defiantly inspired me to start!
I am so glad I came across your blog and how detailed you are with started out with Crossfit and such wonderful nutritional information!
I have been a little hesitant to start a Crossfit plan because I have heard that the diet can be very restrictive, such as the paleo diet, which I know does not work for me!
It’s great to see such wonderful results from someone with such a realistic lifestyle.
    Thank you!

  • Jill

Is there a way to print this? When I click on it it asks me if I want to pin it. Yes, I want to pin it, to my cupboard door! LOL

  • Michelle

So—I may be so out-of-it…but could you elaborate (or provide a reference) about the whole wheat versus whole grain thing, pretty please? I think I am in great need of this enlightenment, but not sure how to find what I need in regards to weight loss etc. maybe you already have done this and I missed it? Thank you for the inspiring blog!

  • Cortney Huckaby

I can’t thank you enough for your amazing information and insight!!! I am currently working with a trainer and have not seen the results that I want and see that it all really starts with what you eat and how much…. I love your food lists!!! Do you have something that shows times and meals that worked for you to shred the “excess skin”? I blew up after my son and workout really hard 6 days a week but I CANNOT seem to get rid of the jiggle belly, arms and bottom!!! You’ve inspired me!! Thank you so much!!!!

  • Robin

I was looking at the 7 day meal plan. My question is how much of what do you eat. Like the omelet how many egges do you use in it ?

  • Traci

You have an interesting website and an inspirational story. I too weighed in at 200 pounds after having my children and had to struggle to lose the weight. I still struggle to keep the weight off and am trying to balance things out so I find your website very common-sense and down-to-earth. I would like to point out one thing though about your above entry that may put some of your readers off. You have great things to say so I want them to get out to as wide an audience as possible. It is mostly when you talk about going to “ghetto” grocery stores: “Shop the most ghetto stores! Unless you fear for your life…we can all go to the ghetto grocery stores and pick through the produce! It’s a sacrifice you have to be willing to take if you want to eat clean on a budget!”. What, precisely, do you mean by that? If you mean grocery stores that are more geared toward a particular community, such as an Asian-centered, or Hispanic-centered, African-centered, etc. grocery store then you need to say that. In my area, I get some incredible produce deals at the Asian- and Hispanic-based grocery stores. They also have a much wider array of choices than the big supermarket chains provide. The Indian stores have a mind-boggling amount of spices, as does the African stores. I will also add that none of these stores are in what one would call a “ghetto”, which is such a derogatory term. You are on the internet and more than one group of people may be reading your material. If you are concerned about sharing your journey and your message, please don’t let something as thoughtless as this put off people who could benefit from hearing your story.

  • Renee

Such an inspiring story! I’m pregnant now and I’m going to try to start eating right now…

  • Vakifamily

I see this post is old but I still wanted to comment. Love, Love, Love it. Im a mother of 8…ages 16-3, kids are in club volleyball, football, rugby, soccer, piano, 7 are in school, I have a fulltime job and im in the young women presidency. I love crossfit workouts but I have to squeeze it in when I have the time which is usually on my lunch or at at 11pm when all the kids are sleeping. Seeing your transformation from 200lbs is sooo inspiring. I got up to 240 lbs when I had #8, Im back down to 200 and since reading and seeing your blog, Im aiming to get down lower, being that Im polynesian and am very use to the heavy meat eating, greasy fatty yumy foods, Ive given it all up and have made clean eating a life style. Thank you for inspiring me to be a better me. Just wanted to express my appreciation 🙂

  • Beverly Deirocini

I happened to stumble across your website and have fallen in love! It seems like I start the health/exercise cycle anew every few months because I do well for a while and then fall into the pit again. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the meal plans/food suggestions. This gives me a great baseline to actually write out meal plans for my week so I know what I need to pick up at the grocery store.

    • Sadie Jane Sabin

I am so glad this will help!!! I am thrilled to be of service!

  • Drea

You are so inspirational Sadie. Im a 30 yr old (well 31 tomorrow hehe) mom of 4 boy under 9… and boy is it hard to find time for me. I run a professional portrait and event photography business… to add my husbands gone a lot as a cop… and we home school too… its A LOT. Im kinda at a stand still with my weight. I have always bounced back rather quick. Im 118lbs roungly (im short 5’2) – pre babies tho I was around 108… and while I DO NOT want to be 108 again 🙂 I was to skinny… I miss feeling fit… pre-baby num 4 I was in great shape. did p90x and felt good… but ive since just kinda let myself go and while im thin in the general scheme of thing, I am not strong… or toned. You are inspiring me to get up and try to fix that… even if its just 10 min a day. Since I don’t have the weight to drop I think ill get there faster than I think… I just got to commit. you are beautiful and love that you do this together with your husband. Btw im curious where you got your pants! I love them!!

    • Sadie Jane Sabin

Most of my workout pants are from TJMAXX or THank you for your very very sweet comments! You are amazing! Don’t be too hard on yourself! You’ve got this!

  • Trish Smith

For the love of all that is good I am so happy I found you! Thanks for keeping it simple!

  • Ashley

May I ask you how tall you are? I’m a mom of three, and I ended up right around 195 as well after my third child and some thyroid issues (now resolved). I’m down to 185 now, but still have a long way to go! I think it is good to find role models that are of a similar height/weight/body type so that when you are losing weight, you have a realistic picture to visualize of what you could look like if you met your goal.

  • Jayson

And you look incredible! Im at 135 but look a lot like your 165 pictures. Id love to work towards the incredible fitness level that youve reached!!

  • Laura

I am SO excited. I had my second babe 7 weeks ago, my 1st is barely 19 months, and I’m at 215-My story is almost exactly the same as yours!! This has been just what I needed today. and extra push to get me to eat well during the holidays. Thank you, thank you! ps, you are a total beast mode momma. I love it. I can’t wait to get my strength back to really take my journey to the next level <3

  • Alejandra

I have to say thank you because first of all how many moms out there try to find somebody with the same issues and trying so hard to keep weight off after baby, be a mom, a wife, a hero, a 3am pacifier….. I will be following you because I can feel that I can listen to what you are saying. Thank you

  • Monica

What does it mean, to “shop the most ghetto stores…unless you fear for your life…”? While I was enjoying your blog/info, those statements really do not sit well with me. But it does prove, what many people know to be true, racism and classism still exists.

    • Sadie jane

I’m deeply sorry that this statement offended you!! In absolutely NO WAY did I mean for this to come across as ‘racism’! I would never ever ever say anything like that!!! In my culture, where I was raised and the people arounds me, we all use the word “ghetto” to define a place that is “old”, “run down”, “sketchy” but in no way is it meant to be a word to offend!! I would never! I apologize that you interrupted it that way!

  • cyntia

What meatloaf recipe do you use that’s pretty clean? I keep finding all of these really fancy(not so healthy) ones that have cheeses and wrapped in bacon?

Do you have simple clean recipe I can follow?

  • Shivonn

Thabkbyiu so much for your post!!! I am newly married and on our second year anniversary I was involved in an accident. I was unable to workout for a year. I have four disc herniations (2 in my cervical, 1 in my thoractic, and one in my lumbar); so although I don’t have the post pregnancy belly fat, I sure do look like it. I am 36 and it’s a struggle to drop the belly fat. I am 40lbs heavier since my accident and only recently have been able to start training to try and strengthen my body. Weight is not going down as fast as I jad hoped, but your post is very helpful! Thank you for this encouragement.

  • AlonnaBaldwin

I appreciate the simplicity of your site. I read so many different ways and ideas on eating right and exercise and I never finish reading it because most of the meal plans turn me off. Oh how loved yours and was extremely inquisitive to read it all when I read such a simple meal plan. I can’t wait to read your blog . Thanks I’m starting today with my new healthy long lifestyle.

  • Kristyn

You look amazing! Very inspirational website! I rarely look at pins like this, never mind comment, but yours caught my attention. 2017 is looking good : )
