My recent fitness journey PLUS a guest post!

Rozalynn from {trulie-scrumptious} asked me to guest post about what I do to stay fit!

Fitness is such a HUGE part of my life and I am so excited to share my story with all of you.
So let’s start about 2 years ago…
I had just gotten married and was AVID about working out.
I ate healthy and ran at least 4 times a week.
Jeff and I played on a coed softball team and I would take random classes at the gym to keep variety in my workouts…and I guess I should mention the daily dance party’s in the shower, car and kitchen.
I signed up for races and runs…it helped me train harder.
AND THEN…it was time to start our family.
I tried to stay fit and healthy throughout my pregnancy as well.
I even ran a 10k when I was 7 months pregnant!
But then little Reagan came and I found myself over-weight and UNHAPPY!
I was determined to be the girl who only looked pregnant in her belly.
But instead I was the girl who gained 60+ pounds.
I suddenly had an overwhelming appreciation for the body I had before I was pregnant!
Which NEVER used to happen…
see I have always had a very low self esteem…
and after I saw the stretch marks and the scale it only got worse…
posting this picture is a very big step for me…it is hard to look at.

I kicked it into high gear.
I signed up for the big RAGNAR RELAY RACE 3 months postpartum.
I went to Zumba 3 times a week and ran the other days.
Jeff was understanding and supportive.

Once I went back to work…I was so exhausted and tired…working out became harder and harder.
The first 30 pounds came off FAST…but then I plateaued.
Running and Zumba wasn’t enough anymore.
{November 2010}
My body had changed for forever…I needed something more…
something to change the way I worked out for the rest of my life.
My sister had been begging me to go with her to the CrossFit gym that she goes to.
I wanted to but didn’t want to step foot into a gym with all that extra weight…
When Reagan turned 7 months and I STILL couldn’t fit into some of my jeans I KNEW what I needed to do.
March 2011 is when I started my CrossFit journey…
CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

It has been the HARDEST, most INTENSE working out I have ever done.
I cried A LOT in the beginning…
I was frustrated with myself…
I kept going.
It’s been painful.
Many pull-ups

AND I have had to sacrifice time away from crafting, sewing, Jeff, Reagan and family in general.
I could DEFINITELY use the money other places in my life but nothing I buy will ever make me feel the way I do after I finish my CrossFit workout for the day.
You can’t buy health!!
YOU have to work for it!
I have lost 15+ pounds in 2 months and it keeps coming off.
SO I strive to go to the crossfit gym EVERYDAY!
I get up earlier and I have less time to sit around…
BUT it’s all worth it.
This picture was taken Easter Sunday!
I am 4 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight and couldn’t be happier with the way that I feel, act and live.
I plan on competing in the CROSSFIT OPENS someday!

    Sadie that is wonderful! I’ve never heard of this program. I almost could swear I was reading my story in your post. I also struggle from self image issues and have my whole life. After three children my mid section is destroyed. Even once all the weight is gone the stretch marks will always remind me of the battle. Honestly I plan to have a tummy tuck or laser resurfacing once I mainting my goal weight for a year. I have done HCG, lost 20lbs, quit smoking, gained 30lbs, did hcg, lost 10lbs and am now 7 more in the 8 weeks I’ve been doing the Kristi Approved Live the life program. I work out every day to the Jilliam Michaels dvds and this is the most painfully slow progress for me. My body doesn’t like to shed lbs. Hcg has been most successful for me but I am wiped out and tired on 500 cal a day and I can’t work out. So I get thin, but not fit looking. Your program definitely has my interest peaked. Thanks for sharing.

    That is so amazing, you are my hero. Scott’s cousin runs a Crossfit gym in Logan and their whole family is way into it. They love it. You look amazing and just motivated me to get off my bum!

    I just came across your blog from a friend who saw your guest post. I have been wanting to start CrossFit so badly, but my town has one gym that has a CrossFit program – and it’s so crazy with the times.

    BUT you have motivated me to get in touch with SOMEONE at my gym and figure out how to start CrossFit.

    I am at the mid way point of my baby weight loss journey. Like you I was a workout/active maniac. Being a college athlete having a healthy body was the only thing I knew. Until three babies made their way in four years. My body was trashed, to say the least.
    My last baby was born in November and since then I have lost 45 lbs! A friend of mine introduced me to Zumba in February and I am hooked! I go 5 times a week, drink an Access shake before each workout and a green smoothie for lunch and a healthy dinner.
    Thanks for sharing your story! It is motivating to know there are women out there going through a similar situation.

    Hi, I know you wrote this forever ago but as I was looking at your blog and reading that you did Crossfit while pregnant(seriously awesome!), I got all excited and looked up your other posts about it [Crossfit]. See, my Christmas present is to sign up for the Spartan Beast in Utah next June (and I’m shaking in my boots already!) Reading this post reminded me so much of my own experiences. I had my second baby in July and have found it so hard to get back my normal routine of exercising. Then I heard about this race and got so excited and think it’s just what I need! And Crossfit is what they recommend to train. Anyway, sorry this comment is so long winded and coming from a total stranger. I really just wanted to say that this post inspired me and that I think you look fantastic (in ALL of those pictures you posted)! Congrats on your pregnancy–being a mom to two kids is definitely a ton of work but sooo awesome too!! 🙂
